We are eager for you to have a magical stay.

If you encounter any difficulties or if there are any ways we may be of help, please let us know.  Similarly, if anything causes you disappointment, please let us know immediately so we can try to make things right.

Below is some basic information that should be helpful.

Dining

Waterland is a relaxed kind of place and so is our food. The Flying Hamilton restaurant showcases classic Sri Lankan dishes and fusion cuisine. Dining here is an event, with breakfast and dinner featuring live action cooking. Each dish is made with freshly ingredients, aromatic herbs, and exotic spices. The Flying Hamilton takes its name from the Hamilton Canal. For several hundred years, spice barges traveled along the canal. To make the cuisine approachable for all our guests, we do not cook with chilies.

  • Breakfast: 8:00am - 10:00am

  • Lunch: 12:00pm - 2:00pm

  • Dinner: 6:30pm - 8:30pm

 

If you have an early morning departure and would like a take-away breakfast, please inform the Front Desk staff.​

 

Pool-Cleaning

A staff member cleans the pool each day.  If your pool has leaves or other debris in it and you would like us to clean the pool one more time, please let us know.  You are also welcome to use the net next to the pool if you want to clean the pool yourself.
 


Water

Please use bottled water for drinks.  There are carafes of bottled water in the bathroom and by the tea kettle.  To reduce the use of single-use plastic, we use carafes rather than plastic bottles.  If you need more water, simply let us know and we will be happy to bring you more water at no charge. 

 

Coffee

There is a French Press along with coffee and tea by the tea kettle.  We take pride in the fresh coffee.  The coffee is grown locally and we roast the coffee on site.  Use 2 spoons of coffee for each cup of coffee.

Check-Out

Check-out time is 11:00am.  If you want a late check-out, please contact the staff to see if that is possible.

Transport

For transport by car or van to the airport or to your next destination around the island, for tours around the island, or for transport by tuk-tuk/3-wheeler, please contact the Front Desk.
 

Cars and vans are provided by a local transportation company whom we have worked with for many years.  

 

The prices charged by these local prices is quite high by Sri Lankan standards, but quite low by international standards.  They use nice vehicles and our guests have found the drivers to be skilled, reliable, trustworthy, and friendly.  The higher charges these local providers charge ensure that the drivers have a living wage and are part of our commitment to responsible, sustainable tourism.

Please pay the tuk-tuk drivers directly. 

For your convenience, you can pay the car and van drivers by credit card at the Front Desk.

 

It generally takes 25 minutes - 45 minutes to get to the airport from Waterland depending on traffic.  There is generally little traffic from 10:00pm - 6:00am.
 

Emergencies

Emergency information - including an emergency evacuation map - is by the entrance door of your villa.
