Waterland is developing a variety of adventures that take our guests to exceptional places that are seldom visited by foreigners.

This adventure takes you past paddy fields and villages to a botanical garden and then on to exotic cave temples.  The expedition is entirely within Gampaha, the district in which Negombo is located.  By staying local, you can avoid the traffic and long journey times associated with trips further afield.  Indeed, the total travel distance for this expedition is less than 100 KM.

As a first stop, we suggest the Henarathgoda Botanical Garden.  (GPS 7.0993, 79.9857) The garden offers a pleasant place to amble and see a sampling of Sri Lanka's diverse flora.  While here, take a pedal boat trip on a quaint pond.

Next, head to Pilikuttuwa Rajamaha Viharaya.  (GPS 7.06385, 80.05034)

Set amid towering boulders with creeping vines and vibrantly painted walls, the cave temples here look like something out of an Indiana Jones film.

Close by, explore two other remarkable cave temple complexes, Maligatenna Raja Maha Viharaya (GPS 7.07057, 80.06492) and Warana Rajamaha Viharaya (GPS 7.10288, 80.07479).
